Groups, Communities and Networks

(More in the series of notes on the new platform - see previous here). A vital part of the new platform is the integrated capacity to create, support and facilitate (or provide access for someone from the network to facilitate) groups, communities and networks. We have always had these communities and networks. But they have previously been, as is so often the case, in a separate process and platform. Now on The CI platform everything is fully integrated - the group itself, the network, the comments, the summarised knowledge, the magasines, the different theme site spaces, and so on. There is one coherent space. We have just commenced this process so numbers are still low and further work will take place. But please take an initial look for example at the Community Media Network (859 members). The home page for this network has the overview and the main "Group News" items. Then there are the comments received - for example see the thread for Local language communication importance - just commenced yesterday. When you have joined this Group you can review the membership and contact folks of interest. There are a bunch of features but just to highight that threads can be shared across different networks and groups - for example see the Local language communication importance thread in the just started Health Communication Network (1,844 members). Over the next few weeks and months we will be rolling out a number of networks and communities for Countries - eg see India - 1,105 members, Development issues - eg see just set up HIV/AIDS network - 1,288; and, Communication strategies such as Community Media Network already mentioned. (As highlighted all  numbers are low at present as we commence the process). There is a lot in this process that I have not mentioned. Most happy to answer any questions. Please let me know if you have specific networks or groups that you would like to establish - and facilitate if you wish. Thanks - Warren

Hi - just a quick further insight on the new Groups and Communities process. As indicated in this thread we now have a fully integrated process - just one platform for the whole of The CI including Groups and Networks.

One "tester" Group we intrdocued was Community Media. Within that Group over the last couple of days there have been 11 contributions to a thread on the importance of local language. So you can see at that link how the process works. Please do join and participate.

As we get more comfortable with this process we will begin to ramp up activity within the initial Groups established - eg India, Nigeria, HIV/AIDS, Polio, Universities and Higher Learning; and, we will be adding Groups such as other countries (Kenya, South Africa, Pakistan, Jamaica, etc), and themes such as Children and Equity, Disasters, Gender, Democracy and Governance.

Please do let me know if you wish to have a specific Group established and if you wish to convene and facilitate that Group - which we can organise.

A further next step will be to have this fully available in Spanish as the first second language.

Happy to answer any questions - Warren
